Minute Mentoring Program :)
Okay so a few weeks ago, I was one of the 75 girls who were nominated from schools all over DC to attend this wonderful event. It was an honor to be able to attend it. The 40 Minute Mentoring Event was an event under the Fortune Magazine, for the most 25 powerful women in the business industry, if i'm not mistaken. All the girls were assigned to about 7 different tables, and at those tables were women in the business industries. Women from designers, to CEO's of businesses, to actresses, to women in the white house were sitting at the tables. We had 8 minutes each to speak to whomever's table we were assigned to. We had to ask them questions about their jobs, and for advice. And it was kind of like speed dating, because every five minutes TYRA BANKS would blow the whistle to confirm our 8 minutes were over.
I met Tori Burch, Alexis Maybank(Creator of Gilt.com, online fashion website), Sukhinder Singh Cassidy(CEO of Polyvore Website), Andrea Jung(CEO of Aveda Make-up), Geena Davis( Actress from Thelma and Louise), and Sonal Shah(White House office of Social). All of these women were ah-mazingggg. I took so many notes from them, and networked.
After that we were put on the fancy limousine buses, and went to a fancy dinner with over 1,000 other big business women. I saw women who were CEO's of ABC, Lifetime, Discovery Channel, Time Magazine, Gap International. There were two students at each dinner table with about 8 other women who were in big businesses. I was sitting at a table with women of my interest of career which is in the Art Field. It was great to network. Obama gave a speech, and dropped the National Seal. Everyone enjoyed themselves. I met new people. It was the best night ever. I got to Hug Tyra Banks.
The funny thing is when we arrived to the tables, there were ipads on the table, with a slideshow showing photos from earlier of us talking to the women at the tables. We were able to choose whatever we wanted to eat, from scallops, to sushi, to merengue custards. The dinner was so fancy and we could eat as much as we wanted to. The food was amazing. At the end all of the 75 girls were asked to stand, and we were all congratulated for being nominated and being successful young women. The host then announced, "I'm not sure if you girls have noticed, but something seems to be missing from the dinner tables." Then some girls started whispering Ipads. She then says, "Well yes ladies the Ipads are missing, because they are in the back being packed up in gift backs for all of you to take home." The minute she said that, all the girls started screaming and jumping around. Me, personally in shock, awe, amazement started crying. I just couldn't hold it in. I was just so honored, I never saw this coming. i was just thinking about all I have been through and how long I have come, and how Hard work pays off. Its amazing. That night was full of great opportunities. :)
